Played outside. Played lawn mower with poppy toy. Watered concrete pad (and her head) with hose. Rode her bike. Tried to ride our bikes.  Trampoline.

Talking a lot about death lately.

Mormons came by to chat but we didn't have time. Lucy very politely introduced herself to all three of them and shook their hands.

Played with blocks. A lot. Something very complicated was obviously going on.

We all went to our church's children's Easter service and egg hunt. Our priest talked about how Jesus wants us to all love each other and that His message is so important that God wouldn't let Him stay dead.  As a group, we sang some kid songs, and we decorated a wood and chicken wire cross with fresh flowers.

Watched 1960s Batman.

Norman read her I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato (Charlie & Lola).

Scaredy Squirrel audio book allll morning. She can read some of the pages now.

Then lots of pretend play like she's Scaredy Squirrel or she's talking to Scaredy Squirrel.

I read her Clarice Bean: Guess Who's Babysitting.

She's reading Appley Dappley's Nursery Rhymes to herself.  She's making most of it up (I think she's heard someone read it once before).  But her made up version rhymes and has meter.

Then she had me read it to her. Then I looked up the word "periwig".

Played outside in the backyard. Some puddle stomping was involved.

Went to the thrift store.

Watched Between the Lions.

Pretended to be Babs Caplan (a very silly human grownup author character from Between the Lions) -- set up her desk and started "writing" stories.

I read her I've Won, No, I've Won, No I've Won (Charlie & Lola).

Story Time at the library. Animals and colors.

Lucy picked out some Charlie and Lola books and some other random ones, I found two Elephant and Piggy books that we haven't read yet, and Lucy went back to Between the Lions for her one DVD.

Played in the play area mostly by taking random books off the shelf and pretend to hold her own story time.

Played with the puppet theater.  Wanted to know what sound the hippo makes. I found a video on my phone and played it for her. Turns out it's kind of like a cross between a cow and a trumpet.

The librarian told her that when she's done with a book that she doesn't want to check out, she should take them up to the children's desk. Lucy was thrilled to help, and even more thrilled when one of the librarians at the desk called her a good helper.

Back home: Watched Between the Lions (a show kind of like Sesame Street but for older kids -- emphasis on phonics and reading).

Christmas pageant CD. Again.

Asked what "burned bicycle" is in Spanish. Google Translate obliged.

I read her I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato (Charlie & Lola).

Listened to read-along book Scaredy Squirrel and followed along in book several times. As a result, had me explain parachutes, nets, calamine lotion, and sardines.

Had her Pooh figurines go on a road trip in her Sesame Street RV.

I read her two Elephant and Piggy books: "Let's Go For a Drive" and "We Are in a Book!".

Lazy, whiny day.

Lucy spent about 15 minutes messing with my smartphone before I realized what was happening. Looks like she sent a link as a text message to my entire contacts list. She claims she was trying to play Angry Birds.

Watched the Blue's Clues/ Blue's Room DVD.

"Wrote" "cards" to people.

Lots of play with imaginary friends, including Charlie Brown.

She knows how to work the stereo in her playroom. She listened to her Christmas pageant songs CD several times, then the audio of the books the Scrambled States of America and If You Give a Cat a Cupcake.

Noticed a taxi when we were out driving. Wanted to know about taxi vs. cab vs. taxicab.

Went to an Easter party at the Natural History Museum. Dinosaur bones, life cycles of bugs, bean bag toss, ring toss, and the agony of being the slowest and least aggressive of the 100+ children all vying for the same Easter eggs in an enclosed field. (They had some extra eggs they held back for kids like her.)

I offered to trade her a new notebook for the 5 pieces of crappy candy in the eggs she got.  She asked to see the notebook first.  Savvy.

Successfully applied the two temporary tattoos she got from the museum all on her own.

I read her Elephants Cannot Dance (Gerald & Piggie book).

Cleaning Day.

Dressed herself (in a dress) before I got out of bed, again.

Spent a good 30 minutes acting very loving, cuddly, and maternal toward her baby doll. Checking her diaper, rocking her and reassuring her when she was crying, and handing her off to me for nursing. :-)

Read and played with the To Do List magnets I have on the fridge.

Watched The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. Figured out how to hop around with her arms either to her side or down her pants so she looks like a VeggieTales character (no arms, no legs). Intentional inside joking with me about Bob the Tomato.

Helped me clean the playroom, but mostly set up her "business".

Set her table for a meal with her stuffed Merida.

Independent water play in her play kitchen sink.

Aunt Dotty came over for tax help. Lucy took photos with her (Lucy's) digital camera. Got out paper, pencil, calendar, and old checkbooks to give "tax advice".

Watched a Blue's Clues/Blue's Room DVD.  Subsequently spent dinnertime pretending to be Cinderella.

Norman: "Lucy, what does love mean?"
Lucy: "Love means I like you, and I will like you forever, and... I like seeing you!"

I read her The Duckling Gets a Cookie.

Grocery Day.

She had plenty of things to say to the cashiers at both stores.

She started singing a snippet of a VeggieTales song and asked to watch that episode when we got home.

"Ooo, Hello Kitty!! Hello, Hello Kitty! If you say hello to Hello Kitty, you say 'hello' twice, and 'kitty' once."

Picked out fruit yogurt as the thing to buy for herself. Almost always picks yogurt or juice.

Helped me unpack the groceries by "booping" them across the table in the kitchen.

I read her There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.

Watched that VeggieTales she was talking about (after pointing out to me that I put the wrong one on at first) -- Rack, Shack, and Benny. Then watched the first one I put on -- Are You My Neighbor?

The watched a DVD of Pixar shorts.

Then put on a puppet show for me.

Signed her name in pencil on Grandma Katie's birthday card.

Burst into tears upon learning that Norman is colorblind. Calmed down and talked about colors and colorblindness and about how Norman is really good at seeing shapes and shininess because he's not so good at colors.

I read her I Can Do Anything That's Everything All on My Own (Charlie & Lola).

Sunday, March 24, 2013

By the time I was fully awake this morning, Lucy had fed herself a banana, written her name on the chalkboard, and retrieved and donned her chosen church dress.

Later she put on her own socks and shoes after mentioning off-hand that she wasn't wearing tights because she didn't know how to put them on.

Tried to turn Netflix on by herself to watch Sesame Street. I showed her how to do it. Watched the one about the herbivorous dinosaur twice.

Church.  She insisted on introducing herself to the fellow parishioner Norman was conversing with. At the man's request, she told him when her birthday is, and they had a brief discussion about how baby teeth eventually fall out.

Home. Lunch with Aunt Dotty. Lucy, true to her promise from before we left for church, got married to Walter (from The Muppets). Was super excited about salad and ate a bunch of it.

Watched The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything (movie).

Watched me learn how to make palm crosses from YouTube, and tried to make her own by tearing the palm leaves lengthwise, cutting them with her scissors, and taping them together.

Played woodland animal and Spanish vocab games on the internet. Did some typing, and was delighted at the crazy font I picked for her.

I read her The Duckling Gets a Cookie before bed. We will probably be saying "HUBBA-WHAA??" when we're confused for at least several days.
